ARRIVAL DAYS & TIMES
Airport transfers are provided to and from Managua International Airport (MGA) on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 9am and 5pm*. Off day or additional transfers cost an additional $100.
*It is a 2.5 - 3 hour drive to camp from the airport. Driving after dark in Nicaragua can be dangerous as there are few street lights and often vehicles without lights as well as drunk people, and large animals on the road at night.
We do not drive at night for everyone's safety ![]()
CARRIER ADVICE
All the airlines (Delta, Continental, American, Taca, Lacsa, Copa) that serve Managua International Airport (MGA) are pretty much the same with the exception of Taca who is notorious for delaying luggage. To their credit most of our guests still fly with them and few have had problems. The most important thing to do is to contact your airline about surf board limits in bags and embargos which occasionally are imposed by carriers during specific travel dates.
PREPARING FOR YOUR TRIP
Don't forget that you are going to the Tropics
Gigante is 11 degrees 23 minutes (~750 miles) north of the equator in the center of the Tropic of Cancer. Other locations at our same latitude are Northern Venezuela, South East Asia, and the Philippines. It is hot, humid, and the sun is very intense. As europeans for centuries could tell you, it is important to mind your health in the tropics. Luckily it is not that difficult.
The four keys to a healthy trip are: Hygiene, Shoes, insect protection, and sun protection. Click here to see our packing list for details of what you should bring.
