Surf camp in Southern Nicaragua for intermediate to experienced surfers who want to surf good Pacific waves in Nicaragua, Central America
Directions to Gigante
From the
Managua International Airport
- Turn RIGHT out of the Managua airport.
- At the first rotunda continue straight through toward Tipitapa.
- Follow to a confusing intersection with a stop sign, turn RIGHT at stop sign towards Masaya. You will see a bus stop on your left.
- Follow this road for a while past the huge Zona Franca until the road dead ends, turn LEFT onto Carretera Masaya.
- After Masaya turn RIGHT onto HWY 6 toward Nadaime. It's an easy turn to miss, there is a Pollo Estrella billboard on the left.
- Follow until road dead ends with a large speed bump, turn LEFT onto the Pan American (HWY 2).
- Take the Pan American to Rivas, about 20 miles.
From Rivas
- 1.5 kilometers (~1 mile) past the Kilometer 109 marker on the Pan American highway turn RIGHT onto a cobblestone road following signs for Tola. This road is called “calle de amor” (road of love) by the locals. If you come to an Esso station at a rotary you’ve passed the turnoff.
- At the end of the cobblestone road (1 kilometer, 0.6 miles) make a RIGHT onto a paved road traveling northwest toward Tola. You will know you are on the right track when you pass a sign for a hospital 100 yards up on the left.
Travel on the paved road for 11 kilometers (about 7 miles) until you reach Tola. Beware of marked and unmarked speed bumps along the way.
From Tola
(follow the rancho Santana signs)
1. After crossing a one lane bridge you will enter the town of Tola, continue through the town center, (2 speed bumps and several fruit stands later), until you come to a stop sign (1.5 kilometers, about 1 mile from the bridge). The Tola Police Station is on the left and a park on the right. At the stop sign make a LEFT.
2. Travel 2 blocks (200 meters) and make a RIGHT onto a dirt road following a number of real estate signs.
This puts you onto the badly maintained dirt road
4. Follow the dirt road for 5.5 kilometers (3.5 miles) until you come to a fork in the road and stay RIGHT.
5. Continue on through several small villages for another 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) when you will come to a dirt road on your left. There are often a couple of locals waiting here for the bus and on the right hand side of the road there are a few real estate signs. Make a LEFT here.
Make a LEFT at this turn.
If you ask a local where Gigante is they will direct you to this road.
6. Follow this road through about four cement washouts, past a school, and a few farms. After 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) there will be a turn off to the right at this junction with an old wooden sign that says Gigante as well as a few other newer ones. Follow that sign.
Turn RIGHT here.
7. Follow this road into Gigante (2.6 kilometers, 1.6 miles) and turn LEFT when you reach the ocean and the road ends. We are located 200 meters down the beach on the right hand side.
