The giant's foot nation
People that have worked for us in the past, lent us a hand, partied with us, or are just cool people (and animals) in general.
Keith & Maria Griff
![]()
Keith, a retired aerospace engineer, and his wife Maria, a former restaurant manager / hotel manager / chef / you name it in hospitality, are our friends, neighbors, and surrogate family. At their Restaurante Pie de Gigante on any given day you can find surfers, locals, political officials, outlaws, farmers, and...us. We've enjoyed a very tasty partnership with them and they make all our guests feel at home whenever they wander down the road and get lost in their big screen TV, or caught up in one more game of poker.
Ezra
Ezra is the man. We love Ezra. I mean the guy sold his house, loaded up every tool known to man in his truck, including his dog and drove it all to Nicaragua. He showed up in Gigante around the same time as us. We ran into him while he was welding a truck back together...in a kilt. Ezra has lent us so many hands he deserves a place in some pantheon that contains many handed gods. Ez builds houses in Nicaragua now and can usually be spotted in the ocean around sunset with his dog Peatri.
Rinek, John Rinek
A Friend of Jack and Chapin's from Newport High Rinek has been hanging with G.F.S. since the beginning. His fish eye catches him many a fish when he is down south visiting us. It also catches some amazing photographs. John has been kind enough to let us use his Nicaragua photos. So, after destroying the incriminating ones, we hang them up around camp and use them on our web site. You can check out his other work at www.rinekphoto.com.
Shannon Lindsey
Shannon, another friend from Newport high, designs our shirts for us. She seems to capture the vibe just right. check out her stuff at www.shannonlidsey.com.
The Mighty Casey
Casey's innate knowledge of the fruit of the gods, the avocado, made him an instant favorite. He was invaluable to us during one rough week, helping salvage a boat and our spirits with his good humor and hearty cooking. His kitchen sink creations were superb, his yoga poses have no equal, & his beer consumption...measured in gallons.
Hombre Lobo
Jeff Wolfe stalked the streets and beaches of Gigante during the pre-dawn era of Giant's Foot Surf. Just crazy enough to get in the bullring with Zach and just smart enough to get out a minute or two before Zach, he gently wandered south...or maybe it was north. Anyway he was never heard from again except for occasionally. His spanish skills are still held as the gold standard of fluency by Susan, much to the frustration of her husband. This web site is dedicated to him.
La Guardia de la Costa
Yea we hang with the navy. You know they are hard drinking sailors, we are hard drinking sailors...Well, kind of I guess. Anyway, they are a good bunch of guys and they got our back...with machine guns, so...we got that going for us, which is cool.
