Why GFS?

Often we’re faced with the question…What makes GFS the best?  Let us break it down for you!

  • One of the best things about GFS is that what you see is what you get! We don’t photoshop our website or try to make our camp look better than it is…just watch our raw, uncut Camp Tour video which proves it!
  • All local beer and rum beverages are included in the price of your Surf Tour!  As well as soft drinks!  We don’t limit your beers to a certain number per day, in fact if you manage to drink our beer fridge dry (and good luck with that—it has happened *Dan’s group from BC, ahem* but it’s rare), we’ll make a special trip into town to refill our stock.
  • Our meals are all homemade and delicious.  We know that as consistent as the surf is during our Surf Season, we can’t control nature.  What we can control is quality of the food that awaits you when you get back from your sessions!
  • Our staff will happily wake you up for dawn patrol with coffee and cereal ready, and take you out for sunrise surf so you can maximize your day’s surfing potential when everyone else is still sleeping, and we’ll have a hot breakfast waiting when you get back.
  • We’re right on the beach in beautiful Playa Gigante!  Only a few short steps to the boat and you’re on your way to the best breaks in Nicaragua!  No driving or walking to the breaks (driving only in rare circumstances when severe weather won’t permit us to safely operate the boat).  Playa Gigante is centrally located for easy access by boat to breaks as far south as Playa Maderas and as far north as Popoyo, as well as all of the breaks in between!
  • We have the most experienced Head Surf Guide on the coast!  Chapin has been GFS’s head guide for 6 years and helped build the place from the ground up.  With his skills and knowledge of the local area, he trains our staff to get you to the best breaks for the conditions and your abilities!  He is also, hands down, the SAFEST boat captain in the area and, makes sure the rest of our staff is trained to his standards.
  • Our camp is designed to maximize your time outdoors.  All meals are served outdoors, under shade.   We have a great palapa area with hammocks to rest in after a long surf session, and our ping pong/official regulation beer pong table doubles as a dining area.  We have tons of books that you can read in the hammocks during your down time, board games to play, and if for some reason you feel like spending a little time indoors, we have a large selection of surf DVDs and regular movies to watch.  It’s a beautiful beachfront camp, so you won’t want to be cooped up inside watching DirecTV, you can do that at home!  If there’s a big game on, we can head on down to one of the bars in town with satellite TV to catch the action.
  • Internet!  We have wifi available if you want to check in at home, check on business, or check the score.  Just bring your Iphone, Ipad, laptop, or other handy dandy device and we’ll get you logged in.
  • We’re located in a fairly isolated area near the Rancho Santana and Hacienda Iguana developments.  We’re 45 minutes from the nearest grocery store, so staying with us means that we do all the work for you!  You never have to get yourself to the store because our staff takes care of everything during our supply runs several times a week!  You don’t need to rent a car and you aren’t limited to just one surf break due to lack of transport!
  • Our priority #1 is our guest’s happiness!  (check out our TripAdvisor page) If you need anything while you’re here, our staff will help you out.  We want everyone to leave hoping to come back soon!  One of the many ways in which we try to keep our guests happy is by only offering Surf Tours during the time of year when the surf is historically best — March thru September.  Rather than offer tours all year round, we operate as a hotel during the rest of the year because the surfing is hit or miss, and we don’t want disappointed customers.   Also, Hotel Season gives our staff the chance to relax and recuperate so we’re at our best during the high season!
